New Zealand is a cool country. It's one of my favorite places to travel to, not just because it has some great places to ski, but because there is incredible scenery. It's way different looking than any other place I've traveled to. There aren't really any trees anywhere, just grass covered hillsides that continue up into snow capped mountains.
I've spent the last 5 days training at Snow Park. It's a little ski area with just one chairlift, but it's a great place to start out on and find speed. It is owned by a car test track and rented out and run by Guenther Birgmann from TCRA. They do a great job making sure the snow is perfect for training.
I've been training mostly with Johnny Davidson, who was my coach during my two years at UVM. He spent the last two years with the Canadian national team and now he is coaching a group of Norwegian post-grad skiers. I've also trained with Vail and TCRA, big thanks to them for letting me hop in and get some extra mileage in!
Outside from skiing I've been doing a lot of hiking/running through the mountains. There are a bunch of Strava segments out here, it's a great way to stay competitive and work hard trying to get the course records. I got a little lost one night, but it brought me to some pretty sweet views, and I got some cool photos out of it.
Here's a little video from SL training at Snow Park yesterday. I've had an awesome first six days on snow, day off today and my brother gets in later this morning. It'll be fun to start training with him and start pushing each other to be faster and faster. Hope you enjoyed the photos, I'll try to keep taking and posting cool pictures on here!
